Trade advisory organisation the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (Itac) has received an application for the creation of a temporary rebate provision on stainless steel butterfly valves with an inside diameter not exceeding 150 mm, and which relates to valves used in the hygienic and liquid food industry.

While some stainless steel butterfly valves are manufactured locally, the applicant states that valves meeting the required dimensions, grades and sealing materials for food and beverage applications are not manufactured within the Southern African Customs Union, says trade consulting firm XA Global Trade Advisors.

The rebate is, therefore, intended to provide targeted relief without removing protection for other valve products.

Interested parties have until February 13 to submit comments to Itac.
